Why is Diagnostic so important?
A lot of the time when we get vehicles in with a check engine light on, one of the first things we like to do is diagnostic testing. Having a proper diagnostic test performed on your vehicle will help us make sure we are actually fixing the reason your vehicle was brought to our shop. Testing is very important in seeing what component is actually failing.
“Well I went to the parts store and they read my CEL code and they recommended this…”. Alright, that’s a great start but the problem we run into with this, is that part stores sell you parts, in hope that whatever they recommend fixes the issue. Secondly, I’m guessing the reason why you brought your vehicle here, is because whatever the part store recommended didn’t actually fix the problem. We don’t want you to keep having parts recommended that aren’t working. That’s where we come in, having the proper testing done by professionals of what is truly going on in your vehicle.
Another issue we run into when our clients bring in their vehicles for diagnosis, is pre-reading the codes. Sometimes, the code we need to be able to scan was accidentally erased and your vehicles’ monitors didn’t set. Meaning we can’t see the reason that your check engine light was on. Sometimes it’s a thought of “ If I erase the code, it goes away” unfortunately that is NOT true, and in most situations it takes more time and makes our job that much harder. You see, if you erase the codes that are stored in your monitors, and your check engine doesn’t come back on we can’t see the data of what those codes entail.
A standard OBD-II code reader ( or OBD2) is what most parts stores have on hand to use and see what the basic cause of the problem is. In order to get down to the route of the problem, you’re going to need a more hi-tech scanner. The scanners we use at both of our locations gather more advanced readings on certain functions to give you access to multiple systems and components in your vehicle to truly pinpoint the root cause.
With us, our team goes all in to get the right diagnosis to help you get back on your way without any hesitation. While getting all of the right information we need does take time, it’s getting us the accurate answers we need to make the proper solution. In our honest opinion, time is money, and those are the two things we don’t want any of us to waste.
Transparency is an important key while your vehicle is getting scheduled for diagnostics. Before bringing your vehicle into the shop we gather as much information as we can, which may seem like a lot of questions. I can promise that it’s in the best interest for your vehicle and for your pockets! All the information we obtain, we pass onto our technicians. They can utilize this information to know exactly where to start diagnosing. We value your trust in our team here at Lee Myles Auto Care & Transmissions and want to get you back on the road safely and as timely as we can.
